Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: Spotted Dragon (SydVC)

Hello, everyone!

It’s Lucky Joker here with another Pop Fan Artist Spotlight!

This time, I’ll be featuring the art of my very good friend, Spotted Dragon. You may have heard of her… it’s not like she’s an author on this blog or anything. 😜 Spotted Dragon hasn’t actually done much Poptropica fanart lately, but she does plan on doing some this summer, and the Poptropica art she has already done is definitely worth showcasing here.

I’d say her Poptropica art equally consists of both traditional and digital pieces and is done in many different styles. You can see for yourself in this collection below which includes some collab work (click to enlarge the images and see credited artists):

To see more awesome art like this and more, check out SydVC on DeviantArt and visit her gallery. Also, she’s taking chibi commissions right now!

That’s it for this spotlight! I hope you enjoyed this look into SD’s Poptropica fan art. Perhaps you’re even encouraged to make Poptropica fan art yourself. If you have any, we’d love for you to share it on our DeviantArt group gallery at We-Love-Poptropica.

Also, don’t forget to check out the other artists I’ve featured here on the PHB! Talk to you soon… pop on!

The incredible inauguration of monthly member gifts

Hello, everyone! It’s Lucky Joker here with news from the worlds of Poptropica.

Over on Poptropica Original, the Creators have started something called Monthly Member Gifts. Every month starting now, active paying Poptropica members will receive some fun item cards. This month, those nifty items are a Cute PuppyUnicorn Head, and Shrink Power! If you’re a member, they’ll be automatically added to your inventory.

The Cute Puppy is reminiscent of a hand-carried dog from the original app’s Pets Pack,  while the Shrink Power was formerly known as the Minimizer (and available not just for members, I might add). The Unicorn Head is new, though.

If you’re not a member, you can still buy a membership within the month and these items will automatically be added to your account. Great if you want to get them!

Over on the Poptropica Worlds app, a Jack-Jack machine has been added on Home Island. Like the previous Zomberry machine, it offers more picture-taking fun.

incredibles AR.gif

As you can see in the GIF from the Poptropica Creators’ Blog post, there are three Jack-Jack filters to choose from. You can even take pictures with other people—and pets too!

Well, that’s it for now. What do you think of these little updates? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Thanks for reading as always! I’ll talk to you soon… pop on!

Get out and paint the big city with greens!

Hey Poptropicans, it’s Slanted Fish splashing in.

As you may be able to tell from the funny title, there’s a mix of several things going on. Ads, to be precise. Which, on Poptropica, means games and prizes!

The first ad I found, on Mythology Island, is for a new TV show called Get Out of My Room. After watching the video, you can play a game where you match furniture items with where they’re supposed to go in two bedrooms.

Upon completion, you’ll win a Crazy Paintbrush. When you press the space bar with it, you’ll throw paint on the nearest Poptropican.

Get Out of My Room premiered on Monday, June 11 on NBC Universal Kids. Hosted by designer Claire Zinnecker, the show is about creating kids’ dream rooms.

Another ad is also making the rounds: Big City Greens. Once you find and enter the subway station, Cricket Green will ask you to help you find stuff he lost. There are 5 items in total, many of them hidden at the top. Just jump around until you bump into all of them, and you’ll win a Cricket Follower.

Big City Greens will premiere on Disney Channel on Monday, June 18.

Lastly, there’s supposedly also an ad for the Disney Channel show “Big Hero 6: The Series” — at least, according to social media posts from the Creators. I haven’t been able to find it myself, but their pictures show it to be on Mythology Island. With this ad, you can watch a video and play a game to get a prize: Baymax Follower.

That’s all the news for now! Stay popping, Poptropicans.

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: Criaha

Hello, everyone!

Lucky Joker here, and today, I’ll be showcasing the artwork of Criaha in the newest Pop Fan Artist Spotlight. To me, this is long overdue as Criaha is one of my favorite Poptropica fan artists out there. Anyway, let’s pop into it!

As you’ll see, Criaha is very versatile in her art. She can draw just about anything, and in any style too! Check out some of her work below and see for yourself:

Did you know that her piece, “Heart of the Forest”, has won awards in numerous art shows?

Well, it has, and for obvious reasons too—it’s beautiful! That’s why Criaha says it’s her favorite Poptropica-related piece to date. And if that wasn’t cool enough, Criaha also left some tips for any aspiring artists out there who may be reading:

For whether you want to do traditional or digital here’s my advice: never be afraid to experiment. Even if it doesn’t work, you tried. Try again. You’ll hit a sea of bad before you can even get to where you want, but that’s not a bad thing. You have to be bad in order to get good. Another tip: stop comparing yourself to others. This is the most damaging thing you can do as an artist. Art takes time and skill, the people’s who art you admire all have had a lot of time and skill put in their art. No one is just a good artist. It’s a skill like cooking or dancing. You have to do practice to be good. As for just tips for digital alone; start small, draw what you know how to draw. Also if you’ve only done traditional it’s gonna feel weird doing digital. Spend some time drawing lines, scribbles, feeling for that hand eye coordination. Also there’s art tutorials online, take advantage of them! There’s no shame looking up a tutorial. Don’t be afraid of free art programs. Medibang and Firealpaca work just fine, you don’t need to have the biggest or most expensive program to be good. Lastly, practice! Practice practice practice! Wanna be good? PRACTICE!!

You can see more of Criaha’s awesome artwork in her gallery on DeviantArt and/or on her Tumblr @blackwidowpoptropica. She’s a pretty frequent poster of not only Poptropica art, but also art inspired off of other games, like Cuphead. (Also, today marks the 2-year anniversary of Criaha and MissEligon being together, so go send them some love! ❤️)

I hope you liked this Pop Fan Artist Spotlight! Perhaps you feel encouraged to make Poptropica fan art yourself. If you have any Poptropica-related art, we’d love for you to share it on our DeviantArt group gallery, We-Love-Poptropica. Don’t forget to check out the other artists I’ve featured here on the PHB, too! Talk to you guys in the next one…

Community Creations: May 2018

Hello once again everyone! Spotted Dragon here bringing you the May recap for Community Creations! May’s theme was heroes and the featured work is not in any particular order. Be sure to check out all the featured artists!

No clue what’s going on? Go see our intro post.

Top 5 Picks

When You Meet Your Favorite Superhero by Gentle Dolphin aka JordynGowens

Gentle Dolphin aka JordynGowens - When You Meet Your Favorite Superhero

If you couldn’t tell, this drawing is a reference to Wonder Woman’s appearance on Greek Sea Odyssey Island. Big DC fans were psyched to see her, I’m sure, so I bet they’d especially love this piece. The coloring is super accurate and the line-art is crisp, primarily on the drawing’s subject of course. Wonder Woman looks strong and confident in that pose! And the fans’ emotion is well depicted. Great detail! Find her DeviantArt here.

Heroes of Greek Myth by epiphxny

epiphxny - Heroes of Greek Myth

You can easily tell that a lot of work went into this piece! The lighting is fantastic and makes the heroes look like their glowing with power and confidence. The coloring is simple and soft, and I love the style that the Poptropicans are drawn in. Greek myths have always been a big part of Poptropica, from the original Mythology Island to the more recent Greek Sea Odyssey Island. It’s certainly a fan favorite subject! From left to right in the illustration, we have Perseus, Atalanta and Hercules, all from stories you might be familiar with. Amazing work! Find his DeviantArt here.

World Guy: The First on the Force by Sporty Boa

Sporty Boa - World Guy The First on the Force

I think the similarities between Poptropica’s World Guy and Marvel’s Captain America can’t be ignored, and this drawing highlights those perfectly. In this comparison, the artist mimicked a well known Marvel poster, but with our beloved PoptropiCon hero in center stage! This entire idea was really neat and well executed. The pose and other details are super accurate, as seen in this side by side image. While Greek heroes tend to be fan favorites, PoptropiCon is also chock full of some amazing supers. Wonderful drawing! Find his Twitter here.

Marvel Madness by Spotted Eagle

Spotted Eagle - Marvel Madness

What a line up! Marvel’s popularity these days is anything but quiet, and this collage of characters is a perfect example of that superhero adoration. With a mixture of editing and in game costumes, this assortment really brings to life what some of pop culture’s most well known (and less known) heroes would look like as Poptropicans. Can you recognize everyone? Who kinda wants another superhero oriented island in Poptropica Worlds now? Nice work! Friend them with the username dad34853.

Pretzel Break in Super Power Island by ChibiNeko-Lover

ChibiNeko-Lover - Pretzel Break in Superpower Island

Super Power Island is obviously a great choice for this month’s theme. And we have to remember that superheroes need a break every now and then too! You can’t tell me that you didn’t just wanna stop and eat a pretzel when you got stuck on this island. Anyway, the composition of this drawing is wonderful, the camera angle adds lots of interest! Not to mention all the detail in every inch of the piece and the cool, bright colors. Great work! Find her DeviantArt here.

Honorable Mentions

Your submissions never cease to wow me guys! It was especially fun to see all your favorite heroes this month. We even got some My Hero Academia! Great work everyone!

June: How do I Participate?

Community Creations is a cool series for anyone in the Poptropica community to join in on. To sum up what it’s about, it’s basically a chance to show off your artwork, creepy fan-fic, realms, costumes, and anything else that pops into your mind.

If we really like the piece you submit, we will feature it here on the PHB! As long as it relates to that month’s theme. So what is June’s theme? June’s theme is…

Under the Sea!

With summer coming up for most Poptropicans, a cool down is needed. Whether that be a pool party with friends or a full on beach vacation, water is the key element! And Poptropica doesn’t shy away from the ocean. So, for this month, make something related to water! Or, in more fun terms, under the sea!

The possibilities are endless as usual. Draw your favorite underwater Poptropicans, like Poseidon! Create the perfect beach day outfit for Wimpy Boardwalk! Write about your thrilling adventures in Mission Atlantis! The details are up to you, so have fun!

  • Results: I will feature 5 of the submissions as well as 3 honorable mentions.
  • Limitations: Nothing NSFW, and make sure you relate to the theme.
  • Due Date: I will take any entries before the end of this month. Submit as many things as you’d like!

I will always be sure to let you know I have seen your creation. Bonus points if you make a compelling description for your piece! While quality counts, I’m mainly looking for something to simply catch my eye, so don’t be afraid to join in!

So what are you waiting for? Go make something awesome!

Pop Fan Artist Spotlight: ArtisticAsianBunny

Hello, everyone!

It’s Lucky Joker popping in to showcase the art of another Poptropica fan artist in another Pop Fan Artist Spotlight. The featured artist this week is ArtisticAsianBunny!

ArtisticAsianBunny (AAB) draws in a simple yet super adorable style that is quite unique and distinctive to her work. Time and time again, you’ll see the Poptropica villains in most of her pieces. The funny thing is, they don’t appear scary or callous. On the contrary, they look quite huggable.

Seriously, check out this collection of her kawaii art below (and click the images for a better view):

Visit her DeviantArt Gallery for more!

Lastly, AAB shared with me how she came up with her recognizable art style and also gave me insight on how other artists can find their own. Here it is:

When I first started off getting into this community as an fan artist, the first thing I do is learn how to draw a poptropican. So, I decided to go to the PHB blog and found the “How to draw a Poptropican” page. My first try at drawing them was… decent, at least. At time go on, I looked at art from some admirable people like DeeJay-Rosiettahappyclonetrooper, and lots more and took some of their recognizable art style features to put into my own.

Experiment with the current art style you have. If you have someone you admire with their art style, take the things you like about it and add it onto yours. It doesn’t have to be just one artist however, you can do this to multiple artists as well!

Your art style is like a jigsaw puzzle, You put small puzzle pieces together to another one until you have the big picture. Of course it will take time to complete it, but once you are finished… it will all be worth it.

Well, that concludes this artist spotlight! I hope you enjoyed this look into a Poptropica fan’s artwork. Perhaps you’re even inspired to make Poptropica fan art yourself. If you’ve created some of your own, we’d love for you to share it on our DeviantArt group gallery at We-Love-Poptropica!

Don’t forget to check out the other artists I’ve featured here on the PHB, as well.

An incredible shop update and more!

Hello, everyone! It’s Lucky Joker here with an abundance of Poptropica news for you all today!

First off, Back Lot Island takes the spotlight in the newest Island Highlight post on the Creators’ Blog.

The greatest filmmaker of all time has come out of hiding, and he needs your help to make his masterpiece. But will you be producing the next big blockbuster, or is there trouble in tinseltown? From the first frame to the final cut, it’s lights, cameras, action!

Secondly, the Poptropica store’s items have been re-filtered for the new month as the creators said they’d be. Here is the current stock:

Gold Cards

Lastly, there’s a new advertisement on Home Island on Poptropica Original for Disney·Pixar’s upcoming movie “Incredibles 2”.

Poptropica Incredibles 1

Like almost every ad we’ve seen in the past couple of years, the game here is very similar, however, there is a little twist this time around. Like all of the other ads, you have to run and jump over obstacles in your path with your mouse, but in addition, you also get to blast them by pressing your spacebar.

Poptropica Incredibles 2

You have six lives which are represented by the movie’s logo. It’s pretty fast paced so you may have to give it a couple of tries before you win, but once you do, you’ll earn a plethora of prizes (and they’re pretty legit!) which include: an Invisibility Power Suit, and Laser Eyes, Flaming, and Jack Jack Multiply power cards.

Poptropica Incredibles 3

Well, that’s about everything! What do you think of this new-ish monthly shop update? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

Thanks for reading, as always! Talk to you in the next one…

Woot woot

Woohoo, finally!
